PBCF - PROPELLER BOSS CAP FINS

The PBCF is a boss cap with fins. Developed by Mikado Propeller Co Ltd in collaboration with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd and West Japan Fluid Engineering Laboratory Co., the PBCF has been adopted world wide by ocean going vessels.

 Benefits
Compared to propellers with standard bosses, fuel oil savings of 5% and boat speed increases of 2% are achieved. Other benefits include:

    PBCF for medium-sized ships

    		 A Simple Solution
    No added maintenance required. PBCF is made of the same material as the boss cap and installed the same way as the boss cap.

     

    Easily Installed
    Can even be replaced at sea.
     


    PBCF for small-sized boats

    		 Even Effective with CPP's
    Many PBCF's are installed on CPP's (controllable pitch propellers) used with fast ferries, RORO ships, and oceanic research vessels, to save energy or boost ship speed are erase acoustic equipment noise.

     

    How Does it Work?
    The streams pushed up behind the propeller blades are blocked and pushed into a straight slip-stream by the fins of the PBCF. The blocked flows force the fins up, reducing torque by over 3%. The ground effect of the blades, followed by the fins, boosts thrust by more than 1%.
